Icing Tunnel Tests for Thermal Ice Protection Systems
AIR6440
This document is intended to provide guidance for conducting icing tunnel tests for assessment and design of thermal anti-ice systems for wing, stabilizers and engine inlets (considering both hot air and electrical power as a heat source).
Rationale: This document is intended to provide information for novice users in developing test plans and conducting icing tunnel tests to assess the performance of thermal anti-ice protection systems. This AIR considers multiple aspects such as certification rules, aircraft operation constraints, icing tunnel limitations, scaling methods to convert flight conditions into icing tunnel conditions, instrumentation definitions as well as guidelines to save time in the icing tunnel.
