Prediction of Temperature Field Inside Lithium-Ion Battery Based on Similarity Theory

To accurately and efficiently predict the temperature fields inside a lithium-ion battery is key technology for the enhancement of battery thermal management and the improvement of battery performances. The dimensional analysis method is applied to derive similarity criterions and the similarity coefficients of battery interior temperature fields, based on the governing partial differential equations describing the three dimensional transient temperature field. To verify the correctness of similarity criterions and the similarity coefficients, 3D finite element models of battery temperature field are established with a prototype and scale model, on the assumption that the battery cell has single-layer structure and multi-layers structure separately. The simulation results show that the similarity criterions and the similarity coefficients are correct.

Active and Passive Control of Torsional Vibration in Vehicle Hybrid Powertrain System

The vibration characteristics of hybrid vehicles are very different from that of traditional fuel vehicles. In this paper, the active and passive control schemes are used to inhibit the vibration issues in vehicle hybrid powertrain system. Firstly the torsional vibration mechanical model including engine, motor and planetary gear subsystems is established. Then the transient vibration responses of typical working condition are analyzed through power control strategy. Consequently the active and passive control of torsional vibration in hybrid powertrain system is proposed. The active control of the motor and generator torque is designed and the vehicle longitudinal vibration is reduced. The vibration of the planetary gear system is ameliorated with passive control method by adding torsional vibration absorbers to power units. The vibration characteristics in vehicle hybrid powertrain system are effectively improved through the active and passive control.

Experimental Performance Analysis of Multi-Channel Active Control System for Road Noise in Vehicles Using FXLMS Algorithm

It’s significant to analyze the Experimental performance of active control system for road noise. In this paper, a 2-channel active control system of vehicle road noise based on FXLMS algorithm is established. The complexity of Filtered-x Least Mean Square algorithm (FXLMS) is analyzed. The bench test and road test are carried out to test and analyze the performance of the control system. Firstly, the general mathematic model of the multi-channel active control system based on FXLMS algorithm is established. The computational complexity of the algorithm is analyzed. Secondly, a hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) test bench based on multi-channel FXLMS algorithm and a measurement system based on DASP are set up, to measure the noise reduction performance of active noise control system under various working conditions. Finally, the bench test and the road test are carried out and the results are analyzed.

Brake Judder Induced Steering Wheel Vibration: Experiment, Simulation and Analysis

The prevention and control of brake judder and its various negative effects has been a key target of vehicle production. One of the effects is the steering wheel vibration during vehicle braking. Experimental and theoretical investigation into “steering wheel vibration due to brake judder” is extensively presented in this paper. The vehicle road test is carried out under controlled braking conditions. During the test, the accelerations of brake caliper assembly, suspension low and upper control arm, steering arm, tie rod and steering wheel, left and right wheel rotary speed, are measured by a multi-channel data acquisition system. The data processing focuses on order tracking analysis and transfer path analysis to work out the related resonant components. A disc brake assembly, with deliberately designed disc thickness variation and surface run-out combinations, is tested on a brake dynamometer.

Experimental Investigation into Friction Induced Noise of Automotive Wiper System

The test is carried out to examine the vehicle interior noise, windscreen vibration and wiper blade vibration induced by wiper friction, under the combination conditions with various wiping speed and windscreen wetness. The noise's time-frequency characteristics, influence factors and noise source were approached by means of time domain, frequency domain and time-frequency domain analysis. The results indicated that wiper noise can be classified into reversal noise and wiping noise. The reversal noise is characterized by impulsive noise, and wiping noise is featured by wide-band noise with harmonic components. The nature of both types of noises is strongly affected by the windshield wetness; however, it is far less affected by the wiping speed. The wiping noise is mainly resulted from lateral and vertical vibration of wiper blades.

Applicability of Different Loudness Models to Time-Varying Sound in Vehicle

Three sound loudness calculation models, including Zwicker instantaneous loudness model, Moore instantaneous loudness model and Moore time-varying loudness model, and the cited Zwicker time-varying loudness model in ArtemiS, were applied to calculate the time-varying loudness of three typical vehicle sounds, in particular. They are steady engine idle noise, impulsive door closing noise and order-swept electric vehicle pass-by noise. Based on the loudness amplitude and time-frequency loudness results, the applicability of the four loudness models to time-varying sounds was analyzed and compared. It was found that, both Zwicker and Moore time-varying loudness models are more reliable than Zwicker and Moore instantaneous loudness models if the sound amplitude and frequency vary tempestuously. And the time-frequency result of Moore instantaneous loudness model can be very helpful to noise source identification and mechanism analysis.

Theoretical Modeling and FEM Analysis of the Thermo-mechanical Dynamics of Ventilated Disc Brakes

Prediction and analysis of the thermo-mechanical coupling behavior in friction braking system is very important for the design and application of vehicle brakes, such as brake judder, brake squeal, brake wear, brake cracks, brake fade. This paper aims to establish a macro-structural model of the thermo-mechanical dynamics of the ventilated disc brake with asymmetrical outer and inner disc thickness, taking into account the friction-velocity curve of the disc pad couple acquired by testing. On the basis of finite elements analysis of the model, the predictions of the thermo-mechanical responses of the brake disc are presented, including disc transient temperature field and normal stress in radial, circular and axial directions, disc lateral deformation and disc thickness variation. Numerical predictions of the disc surface temperature and later distortion are compared with experimental measurements obtained by thermocouples and non-contact displacement sensors.

Brake Judder Analysis Based on the Rigid-Flexible Coupling Model of Brake Corner

Brake judder severely affects the riding comfort and safety of vehicle. For the brake corner system, a rigid-flexible coupling model is established based on ADAMS. In the model, brake pads, caliper, anchor and knuckle are flexible bodies, and the contacts between pads and disc and the contacts between pads and caliper are defined in detail. Meanwhile, the vibration acceleration of the brake corner components and the contact forces between disc and pads are used as evaluation index and the evaluation system of brake judder are improved. The analysis results show that the novel model and evaluation system can be used to predict brake judder effectively.

Influences of Pad Backplate on Thermo-Mechnical Coupling in Disc Brake

The transient thermo-mechanical coupling dynamic model of ventilated disc brake with asymmetrical outer and inner thickness was established by means of Msc-marc software. In the model, pad backplate is simplified as a rigid surface with the same shape of brake lining and is bonded together with brake lining. Control node is associated with the rigid surface and the equivalent force that replaces the pressure is applied on the control nodes, of which the degrees of freedom in radial and rotational directions are constrained. With distribution characteristics of disc temperature field, normal stress field and lateral thermo-elastic deformation and thickness for the evaluation, the impacts of brake pad constraints on brake thermomechanical coupling characteristics were analyzed. The simulation results show that the brake pad back plate is an important structure in brake thermo-mechanical coupling analysis, which can’t be ignored in simulation computing.

Influences of Initial DTV on Thermomechnical Coupling in Disc Brake System

In this paper, the initial disc thickness variation (DTV) of a ventilated disc in automotive brake system is modeled as sinusoidal function of the second order. The transient thermomechanical coupling properties of the brake system is simulated using finite element (FE) modeling. The system models and results were verified by a thermomechanical coupling test of a disc brake conducted on a brake dynamometer. By using varied evaluation indexes such as the temperature distribution, the normal stress and the elastic deformation of disc surfaces, the influences of the initial DTV and its direction as well as its amplitude on the thermomechanical coupling characteristics were analyzed.

Fast Prediction of Disc Brake Squeal Uncertainty Based on Perturbation Concept

It is a worldwide technical difficulty to predict brake squeal uncertainty and its propagation regularity due to key parameters’ randomcity. However, as a widely used stochastic finite element method, Monte Carlo Method costs a large amount of time in calculation. It is very important to establish a fast prediction method for brake squeal uncertainty due to key parameters. In this paper, perturbation concept was applied for disc brake squeal uncertainty prediction. Firstly, a simplified, parameterized finite element model of disc brake was established for complex eigenvalues calculation. Then sensitivity analysis of real parts and frequencies of complex eigenvalues to influence parameters was carried out based on the finite element model. A series of second order perturbation polynomial formulas were fitted from the sensitivity analysis results, which were used for calculation of uncertain complex eigenvalues.

Impact of Contact Pressure Distribution on Break Squeal of Drum Brake

Contact pressure distribution is one of the key influence factors and the essential causes of brake squeal. In this study, a drum brake finite element model is established using ABAQUS. The contact pressure distribution is simulated and the brake squeal instability is predicted based on the complex eigenvalue analysis method. Different contact pressure distributions are obtained by changing the structure and material parameters of the drum brake as well as altering the friction coefficient and the brake pressure. Then, the effect of contact pressure distribution on brake squeal is investigated, and the mechanism of the key contributing factors of brake squeal is studied. The innovation of the study is that it correlates squeal properties directly to the contact pressure distribution characteristics, which is considered as the essential influence mechanism of brake squeal.

Parameter Analysis and Optimization of Road Noise Active Control System

The parameter setting has a great influence on the noise reduction performance of the road noise active control (RNC) system. This paper analyzes and optimizes the parameters of the RNC system. Firstly, the model of the RNC system is established based on the FxLMS algorithm. Based on this model, taking the maximum noise reduction as the evaluation index, the sensitivity analysis of convergence coefficient, filter order, and reference signal gain was carried out using the Sobol method with the data measured by a real vehicle on asphalt pavement at 40km/h. The results show that there is no significant interaction between the three parameters. Then, using the idea of orthogonal experiment, the simulation results of the control model are analyzed by taking the maximum noise reduction as the evaluation index. It is found that the convergence coefficient has the greatest effect on the maximum noise reduction, followed by the filter order, and the reference signal gain has the least effect.

Study on Statistical Analysis of Uncertainty of Disc Brake Squeal

Brake squeal shows a significant uncertainty characteristic. In this paper, a series of bench tests were carried out to study the uncertainty of brake squeal on a multi-function brake inertia dynamometer test bench. Then based on time-frequency analysis results, a creative squeal confirmation and determination method was presented, which can show the squeal variations in the domains of time, frequency and amplitude together. An uncertainty analysis method was also established, in which the statistical parameters of squeal frequency and sound pressure level (SPL), and probability density evaluation of frequency based on Quantile-Quantile Plot (QQ plot) were given. And a judgment method of the frequency doubling was devised based on numerical multiple and occurrence concurrence, as well as the uncertainty statistical analysis method considering frequency doubling. All the methods established were applied to the uncertainty analysis of brake squeal.

Investigation on Brake Disc Deformation Under Asymmetric Mechanical Loads

The mechanism of automobile brake hot spots is unclear, which is a problem in the brake industry. Complex coupling between friction, heat, contact, and structure is the main difficulty in revealing the mechanism of brake hot spots. This paper proposes a new way to study the mechanism of hot spots by analyzing the deformation behavior of brake discs under asymmetric mechanical loading. The actual brake is simplified into a brake disc and friction lining system, and a transient dynamic finite element model under asymmetric mechanical loads is established to analyze the deformation characteristics of the brake disc. The normal deformation of the brake disc under asymmetric mechanical loads consists of two parts: low-frequency bending deformation and high-frequency waviness deformation, which are caused by the squeezing effect of the asymmetric brake pressure on the brake disc and the constraint modal vibration of the brake disc.

NVH Comparative Analysis of 3in1 and 2in1 Electric Drive System Based on Experimental Research

As the key assembly of new energy vehicles, the noise and vibration, and harshness (NVH) performance of integrated electric drive system directly affects the driving quality of new energy vehicles. In this paper, the vibration noise characteristic test of 3in1 electric drive system is carried out in the semi-muffler chamber. In order to compare and analyze the difference between 2in1 and 3in1 electric drive system NVH performance, the power electronics unit (PEU) in the 3in1 system was removed and placed on the ground away from the platform, and vibration noise test was carried out. In order to analyze the difference of NVH performance between 2in1 status and 3in1 status, the PEU in the 3in1 system was removed and placed on the ground far away from the bench, and the NVH test was carried out. The microphone signal at 1m position and the vibration acceleration signal of the key structural surface of the system are measured experimentally.

Vehicle Kinematics-Based Image Augmentation against Motion Blur for Object Detectors

High-speed vehicles in low illumination environments severely blur the images used in object detectors, which poses a potential threat to object detector-based advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) and autonomous driving systems. Augmenting the training images for object detectors is an efficient way to mitigate the threat from motion blur. However, little attention has been paid to the motion of the vehicle and the position of objects in the traffic scene, which limits the consistence between the resulting augmented images and traffic scenes. In this paper, we present a vehicle kinematics-based image augmentation algorithm by modeling and analyzing the traffic scenes to generate more realistic augmented images and achieve higher robustness improvement on object detectors against motion blur. Firstly, we propose a traffic scene model considering vehicle motion and the relationship between the vehicle and the object in the traffic scene.

A Unified Frequency Understanding of Image Corruptions and its Application to Autonomous Driving

Image corruptions due to noise, blur, contrast change, etc., could lead to a significant performance decline of Deep Neural Networks (DNN), which poses a potential threat to DNN-based autonomous vehicles. Previous works attempted to explain corruption from a Fourier perspective. By comparing the absolute Fourier spectrum difference between corrupted images and clean images in the RGB color space, they regard the noise from some corruptions (Gaussian noise, defocus blur, etc.) as concentrating on the high-frequency components while others (contrast, fog, etc.) concentrate on the low-frequency components. In this work, we present a new perspective that unifies corruptions as noise from high frequency and thus propose an image augmentation algorithm to achieve a more robust performance against common corruptions. First, we notice the 1/fα statistical rule of the natural image's spectrum and the channels-wise differential sensitivity on the YCbCr color space of the Human Visual System.

A Novel Speed Control Strategy for Electric Vehicles with Optimal Energy Consumption under Multiple Constraints

Autonomous driving related technologies have become a hot topic in academia and industry. Planning control is one of the core technologies of autonomous driving, which is conducive to vehicles safe and efficient driving. This paper proposes a novel optimal speed control algorithm, which considers the power system's energy consumption, the speed limit on the road, and the safe distance of the vehicle in front. An optimal speed control model of “From battery to wheel” energy consumption is established by constructing a performance index function based on the best-fitting formula of motor power, motor speed and torque. Based on the optimal control principle, the fourth-order ordinary differential equation of the speed control model is established, based on the indirect adjoining approach, the speed control model under the restriction of the road speed limit and safe distance of the preceding vehicle is derived and the analytical expression is obtained.

Ride Comfort Analysis of Seated Occupants Based on an Integrated Vehicle-Human Dynamic Model

Low-frequency vibration caused by road roughness while driving is transmitted to the human body through tires, suspension, and seats. Prolonged exposure of the human body to the vibratory environment will have an impact on ride comfort or even health issues. In order to investigate the vibration response of various segments of occupants while driving, a 15-DOF multi-body dynamic model depicting the shanks with feet, thighs, pelvis, torso with arms, and the head of occupants is established in the two-dimensional sagittal plane, which considers the contact between the occupant and the cushion, backrest headrest, and the vehicle floor simultaneously. The biodynamic parameters are obtained by fitting the published vibration experimental data based on an optimization algorithm. The previously proposed half-car model is incorporated into the human model to construct an integrated vehicle-human model for further ride comfort analysis.
