Factors Affecting Dynamic Burst Pressure of Plastics Air Intake Manifold

2005-04-11
2005-01-1514
One of the performance requirements of air intake manifold is burst pressure. Purpose of such requirement is to ensure robustness of manifold design under an engine backfire situation. Two test methods are being used for evaluating burst strength of air intake manifolds: static burst testing and dynamic burst testing. In this paper, burst strength of commercially produced plastic intake manifolds have been evaluated by using both static and dynamic burst test methods, and the results from the two test methods are compared to evaluate quality of correlation between the two sets of data.

The Reduction of Air-Rush Noise in Plastic Engine Intake Manifolds

2000-03-06
2000-01-0044
Reduced engine noise has contributed greatly to the comfort of today's passenger vehicles. Despite the increased use of computer-aided engineering (CAE) tools for acoustical simulation, experimental methods continue to play an important role in the reduction of engine noise. Experimental methods have been developed and tested in order to standardize the procedure by which acoustical radiation can be attenuated and assure the accuracy of the results.
