Standard Metrology for Vehicular Displays

2021-08-24
CURRENT
J1757/1_202108
The scope of this SAE Standard is to provide methods to determine display optical performance in all typical automotive ambient light illumination, with focus on high ambient contrast ratio, which is critical for display legibility in a sunshine environment. It covers indoor measurements and simulated outdoor lighting. It is not the scope of this document to set threshold values for automotive compliance. However, some recommended values are presented for reference. The present revision does not address the usage of polarized sunglasses.

Vehicle Display System Light Efficiency

2021-04-09
CURRENT
J1757-3_202104
This SAE Recommended Practice provides test protocols with performance requirements for vehicular flat panel display systems efficiency. The standard help determine vehicle the display system light efficiency vector KDS = (K50, Knight, Kdaytime, Khigh-ambient) with the highest optical performance (such as luminance, contrast) and lowest power density (defined as total power divided by active area of the display), based on typical automotive usage such as ambient lighting. In this standard, we are measuring Lamb to determine Eamb value such as 1.592 cd/m2 measured off a 0.99 standard diffuser equivalent to 5k lux illumination environment, same as in SAE J1757-1.

Standard - Optical System HUD for Automotive

2018-11-06
CURRENT
J1757-2_201811
This SAE Standard provides measurement methods to determine HUD optical performance in typical automotive ambient lighting conditions. It covers indoor measurements with simulated outdoor lighting for the measurement of HUD virtual images. HUD types addressed by this standard includes w-HUD (windshield HUD) and c-HUD (combiner HUD) with references to Augmented Reality (AR) HUD as needed. It is not the scope of this document to set threshold values for automotive compliance; however, some recommended values are presented for reference.
