Chip in Glass Fluorescent Indicator Panel with a 128 X 32 Dot Matrix

1992-02-01
920598
A CIG-FIP (Chip In Glass Fluorescent Indicator Panel) with a 128 x 32 dot matrix having a dot size of 0.55 x 0.55 mm2 and a dot pitch of 0.85 mm in the x and y directions was developed. CIG technology is one of the solutions to the problem of a large number of external connections In conventional graphic display panels. 286 external connections for a conventional panel having a 128 x 32 dot matrix are reduced to 22 ones for this device. And the device also offers the advantages of low total system cost, easy assembly, and high reliability.

Multicolor CIG-FIP for Automotive Applications

1991-02-01
910352
A multicolor Chip-In-Glass Fluorescent Indicator Panel (CIG-FIP) has been applied to “Diamante,” MMC's new car, as an air conditioning display system. Operating in static mode, the display realizes clear and high luminance in the colors of yellow, red, and sky-blue. Display characteristics and features of a next generation driver IC for a CIG-FIP are described. Also, an advanced CIG-FIP using these driver ICs is reviewed.

Poly-Si TFT Active Matrix Fluorescent Indicator Panel

1991-02-01
910353
A new graphic-type FIP® (Fluorescent Indicator Panel) combines conventional FIP elements with a poly-Si thin-film transistor (TFT) active matrix (AM). The matrix is capable of incorporating memory function in each picture element to drive the phosphor in static mode. A prototype device with 24 x 24 picture elements in a 12 x 12 mm size shows brightness levels exceeding 200 fL (600 cd/m2) at a 25-volt driving voltage. Its characteristics are stable after the sealing process at 450°C for about 30 minutes. With continuing improvement, this device will be available as a terminal display in an automotive navigation system.
