Design Standards for Motor Vehicle
Refrigerant Vapor Compression and Expansion Systems
Access Port Assemblies and Interfaces
J3324
SAE JXXXX has been published to establish the requirements for Automotive refrigerant air-conditioning and heat pump service port assemblies typically included on an SAE J2064 automotive coupled hose and tube assembly. The service port assemblies are used to access the system for evacuating and charging the system and shall be designed to minimize permeation of the refrigerant and prevent contamination from entering the system.
Rationale: The scope of SAE JXXXX covers the service port assemblies which typically include a valve body, internal valve core and sealing cap intended to be used to access an automotive refrigerant air-conditioning system for evacuating and charging the system with refrigerant during initial vehicle assembly. The service port assembly is also used to access the refrigerant in the automotive air-conditioning system during servicing at authorized vehicle service shops.
This document provides standards for the design, assembly, and test of Mobile Air Conditioning (MAC) and heat pump systems’ refrigerant charge, service, and switch port assemblies. This standard may be used by regulatory authorities to establish environmental, health, and safety requirements.
Requirements and dimensions for the refrigerant-specific access ports, internal valve core, and sealing cap which were previously listed in SAE J639 are included. New requirements not previously listed in SAE J639 are also included.
Requirements for the tools and/or fittings which attach to the service port assembly in order to access the refrigerant system are included in the scope of this standard.
MAC and heat pump systems found on large trucks and busses, heavy-duty vehicles, off-road vehicles, and other vehicles that do not use typical automotive A/C or heat pump systems are not included in the scope of this standard.
