Limited Adaptive Forward Lighting System
J2591_201705
This SAE Recommended Practice applies to motor vehicle Forward Illumination Devices which incorporate limited adaptive beam pattern capabilities. This document is to be used in conjunction with other forward lighting standards and/or recommended practices which define the base beam procedures, requirements, and guidelines.
Rationale:
Title, Scope – Added term “Limited” to document title and scope to further distinguish this document from SAE J2838 – Full Adaptive Forward Lighting Systems.
2.1, 2.2 – Updated format wording.
2.1.1, 2.2.1 – Moved SAE J575 to Applicable Documents section and revise title.
2.2.1, 2.2.2, 2.2.3, 2.2.4 – Updated and corrected reference titles.
3.5 – Removed references to variables that can influence the beam pattern, since these variables are not addressed in the document.
4 – Changed “after” to “before” to be consistent with SAE J759.
5.1.2.4, 5.1.2.6 – Updated requirements to address systems where some of the light in the nominal beam pattern is actively redirected. This allowance was addressed in NHTSA Docket No. NHTSA–02–13957 and therefore was included in this recommended practice.
6.1.4, 6.1.5 – Renumbered sections.
6.3.1.1, 6.3.1.2, 6.3.6 – Wording change for clarity.
