SAE J1362 presents graphical symbols for use on operator controls and other displays on off-road work machines as defined in SAE J1116 plus mobile cranes but excluding agricultural tractors. Symbols for agricultural tractors are covered by ASABE S304, ISO 3767-1, and ISO 3767-2.
Rationale:
SAE J1362 is almost completely revised. The major types of revisions are: to delete symbols applicable only to agricultural tractors, which are covered by ASABE S304; to add many new symbols; to revise symbol titles to ISO format; to add descriptions in ISO format for all symbols; to revise selected symbols; and to move selected symbols to more logical locations in the standard.

SAE 1362 presents graphical symbols for use on operator controls and other displays on construction, general purpose industrial, agricultural, forestry, and specialized mining categories of off-road self-propelled work machines, as defined in SAE J1116. Symbols for agricultural equipment other than the basic agricultural tractor (for example, combine harvesters, cotton harvesters, forage harvesters, balers and sprayers) are covered by ASAE S304 and are therefore excluded from the scope of SAE J1362.
