Evaluation of Corrosiveness and Oxidation Stability of Aviation Lubricant
ARP6839
This test method describes a standardized process to evaluate the an aviation lubricant’s resistance to oxidation and corrosion-based degradation and to evaluate the fluid’s tendency to corrode various metals. Fluids are evaluated under a low-moisture atmosphere at a variety of times and temperatures.
Rationale: Corrosion and oxidation stability performance are critical parameters of an aviation turbine lubricant. SAE AS5780 defines the performance specification limits for corrosion and oxidation stability, but requires significant modification to the test method. Furthermore, FED-STD-791, Method 5308 is no longer supported by the sanctioning organization. This test method will capture the modifications to the test method called out in AS5780
