The scope of this project is to describe the applicability of Insulation monitoring devices (IMDs) for high voltage (HV) ungrounded systems. the basic advantages of using the IT system should be shown, and the requirements for the system, protection coordination, installation, and safety should be defined.
Rationale: On the way to more electric aircrafts (MEA) and for the purpose of weight savings, higher voltages will be required. This applies to both hybrid and full electric aircrafts. In this context, the IT system will play an important role for safe operation. Since the IT system and IMDs have not been used in aviation so far, it is necessary to develop standards for these applications.
