Automated Rivet Installation for Structural and Temporary Fasteners in Aluminum & Composite Structures

Blind Fasteners and installation tooling have evolved from the double action tooling required to install NAS1398/99 (dash codes) and NAS1738/39 blind fasteners as well as NAS1398/99 (A codes) with single shift tools and single diameter nose pieces, to the current single action NAS9300 series where the versatile installation tooling and one pulling head installs all head styles and three diameters. During the technological evolution of automated assembly systems, large structures had to be physically moved to the bulky automated riveting equipment. Today to suit ergonomic requirements, the development of a lightweight pneumatic tool for automated blind fastener installation brings the equipment to the structure. This new tool (RV3000) permits the operator to activate the trigger that auto feeds fasteners from a strip (50 to 100) fasteners compared to manual installation of each fastener.
