Occupant Kinematics in Impact Tests Using Retro-Fitted Mathematical Models

A technique which uses impact test data as a basis for system identification of occupant models has been investigated. The technique extracts certain model parameters, such as contact characteristics of the occupant's environment, directly from the test data. Inherent problems have been identified concerning the extraction of a full set of system parameters on the basis of a single impact test.
