SMC Design Manual for Exterior Body Panels

The SMC Automotive Alliance (SMCAA) has published a comprehensive sheet molding composite (SMC) design manual to assist the design engineer who has primary responsibility for designing and engineering Class “A” body panels. It also is intended for industrial engineers, plant process engineers and other professionals. The comprehensive manual is unique in that it draws upon the skills and long-term experience of the 30 material supplier and molder member companies of the SMCAA. This paper details some of the basic SMC design criteria and describes other data found in the manual.
