Ultra High Metal Powder Densification for Manufacturing Highly Loaded Automotive Parts 950387

The object of this paper is to present unique technology for an ultra high densification of P/M products.
Outline of powder metallurgy penetration into automotive market is examined. Its benefits and particularly its limitations are also stressed. Inability to reach high densification is shown as a single, most important factor preventing wide use of P/M products. Rotopressing which represents modern and unique way for ultra high densification of sintered products is then described. Applications of rotopressing as a direct replacement for wrought steel parts are identified. Specific application to manufacture gears and sprockets follows. Characteristics of process and product, their advantages and merits are closely examined.
