The Aerodynamic Design of Variable Power Turbines for Turbochargers 920041

The basic aerodynamic design principles for variable power turbines using variable vanes are derived. Optimum performance and efficiency require a proper match between the impeller, the vane system, and the volute. A typical design is described, with drawings. Experimental data showing corrected flow, expansion ratio, and efficiency for the design at several vane settings are presented.
