SAE Tire Braking Traction Survey: A Comparison of Public Highways and Test Surfaces 890638
The SAE Wet & Dry Braking Traction task force initiated a study of public highways and proving ground test surfaces. Two automotive manufacturers and six tire companies provided tire braking traction data from their respective test surfaces and several public highways. Peak and slide coefficients were measured on wet and dry surfaces at two speeds and two loads using the Uniroyal P195/75R14 All-Seasons production tire. The objective of the study was to document the relative performance of current tire test surfaces versus a wide variety of actual public highways. The traction tests were conducted between April and August 1986.
