Open-Pore Ceramic Foam as Diesel Particulate Filter 890172

Diesel Particulate Filters for both passenger cars and heavy duty vehicles were manufactured using cordierite ceramic foam. Prototypes without and with various catalytic coatings were produced and tested.
One of the main impediments for large-scale application of today's available DPF systems is their relatively high soot ignition temperature/regeneration temperature. Test results employing these soot filter prototypes yielded soot ignition temperatures considerably lower than those measured with other DPF systems. These results are observed with and without catalytic coatings and ease the difficult regeneration process.
