The New B/FL 1011 A Diesel Engine Family from DEUTZ with Integrated Cooling System 881285

This paper describes the development philosophy which served as a basis for conceiving a new family of modern diesel engines in the power range 10-53 kW developed at the Cologne Research Center of Klöckner-Humboldt-Deutz AG (KHD) over a period of four years. Furthermore, the technical highlights of these engines are discussed.
The FL 1011 family comprises naturally aspirated 2, 3 and 4 cylinder engines and a 4 cylinder turbocharged engine. They not only continue the KHD tradition of air-cooled diesel engines but also implement new design technologies in the area of integrated cooling systems.
It will be shown how modern component design have yielded a diesel engine family which, in addition to satisfying present requirements, fulfills future performance expectations of the market place.
