Advanced Canning Systems for Ceramic Monoliths in Catalytic Converters 880284

An advanced design for mounting ceramic monoliths in catalytic converters has been developed. This design specifically addresses the oval cross sections of ceramic monoliths and features the mat mounting system. It has also been developed for the extreme thermal and mechanical requirements given by the European driving conditions.
This paper demonstrates the advantages of these advanced canning systems in comparison to conventional systems.
A basic requirement for the successful application of the mat mounting system is the thorough knowledge of the technical characteristics and the behaviour of the components and good engineering of the entire system.
The results of the necessary engine dyno and road tests are also shown.
