Abdominal Penetration Measurement Insert for the Hybrid III Dummy 860653
To aid in the determination of the severity of injuries sustained during an automobile crash, an abdominal insert for the Hybrid III dummy has been developed which is capable of measuring the depth and rate of steering wheel penetration during a crash simulation. The insert consists of a foam-filled air bladder designed to approximately simulate human force-deflection response. The deflection of the air bladder is determined by monitoring its internal pressure, and using pressure-displacement calibration curves developed for the insert.
