Combustion Chamber Investigations At Porsche-Paving The Way For The 4-Valve Engine 845005

The combustion process plays an important role in the transformation of the chemical fuel energy into mechanical work. It mainly depends on the combustion chamber configuration. Today's mathematical models and theoretical knowledge being unable of furnishing realistic forecasts on the combustion process with all its effects, such information is mostly obtained through experimental investigations. The experience acquired by Porsche throughout the last decade on a single-cylinder research engine are being used to realize optimum combustion conditions for each engine according to the development targets.
