Development of Crash Energy Management Solutions 760793

DEVELOPMENT OF CRASH ENERGY MANAGEMENT SOLUTIONS
The mechanical properties of to day's vehicle are investigated as a basis for favorable crash energy management solutions. Important parameters follow the similarity law of Cauchy. Different concepts of intervehicular compatibility are discussed. The tolerable closing speeds depending on the mass ratio and accelerations of colliding vehicles are calculated using realistic data of deformation forces, human load tolerances and different restraint system characteristics. Engine effects and measures to reduce engine aggressivness are investigated. Possible solutions for accident types other than frontal collisions are briefly discussed.
