Ingested Dust, Filters, and Diesel Engine Ring Wear 680536

The radiotracer technique was used to measure piston ring wear caused by dust metered to the intake air, fuel supply, and crankcase lubricant of an industrial diesel engine. Several basic air cleaner configurations were evaluated for their effectiveness in reducing ring wear due to ingested dust.
