Detroit Diesel Series 149 Engines 660604

The 149 Series described in this paper is Detroit Diesel's new entry in the 500 to 1300 horsepower engine class. Designed for ruggedness, durability and maximum serviceability, it features a unique block construction with encased pot heads, overhead camshafts and blowers. The most unusual component of the engine is the “pot type” cylinder head which fits into a bored-out area of the block at each cylinder. It offers a significant advance in serviceability, mechanical and thermal characteristics. The overhead camshafts are easily accessible and provide stiff, rugged valve and injector drive mechanisms.
