Fast Break Induction 630106

Analysis of the induction coil circuit indicates that the speed with which the primary current in an induction coil is brought to zero is found to be a critical factor in determining the maximum output voltage. Two types of current interrupting devices were investigated experimentally and gave results in agreement with theory. It is seen that a p-n junction arc-suppressor can provide faster current breaks than does the conventional point condenser arrangement.
