Recent Operating Experience with the Caravelle 620455

United Air Lines has operated the Sud Aviation Caravelle VI-R in the eastern United States since July, 1961. The paper describes the aircraft, cites differences between United's aircraft and earlier Caravelles, and describes the problems attendant to planning for and operating this new aircraft. Emphasis is placed on the mechanical dependability. Also covered are performance, operating costs, and passenger reaction to the plane.
