Chassis Design for Electric Car Prototype 2014-36-0215

In the present day, cars powered by fossil fuels, the means of transport most used by people, has been appointed as the villain pollution of our planet, and with it created a pressure on automakers to build large-scale powered cars to electric power.
This paper aims to design and analysis of torsional stiffness of the chassis of a prototype powered by electricity.
The relation between mass and structural stiffness of a chassis is crucial to evaluate the efficiency of a project.
The chassis geometry was designed in CAD software in three dimensions, using mid surfaces and numerical analysis was performed using the Finite Element Method (FEM), formulation utilized by shell elements.
An ergonomics study was also made in the design phase to provide proper use of the occupants.
The structural rigidity of the chassis obtained was of 2363Nm/° with a mass of 84 kilograms.
