Methodology to Determine the Clutch Facing Sensitivity Regarding Judder in the Vehicle 2010-36-0501

Methodology to determine the clutch facing sensitivity regarding judder in the vehicle. Vehicle "Judder" is identified as low frequency and high amplitude vibrations that, depending on their intensity, can cause uncomfortable driving. There is a bench test developed specifically to measure the judder sensitivity of the friction material used on clutch discs. The aim of this work is to develop a methodology for characterization of the facing sensitivity for judder. This study was basically divided into two parts: firstly an alternative was developed in the initial phase by running a numerical simulation on the judder bench test in order to save test time and based on three different facing materials. Secondly, an experimental judder test was done in a passenger car to enable a practical comparison on the judder problem, such as: to validate the efficiency of the numerical simulation and to classify the judder sensitivity of the three materials.
