Development of a Motorcycle Posture Model for DHM Systems 2008-01-1866

This paper presents studies carried out to generate a motorcyclist posture model and the appropriate posture measurement system PCMAN. In this context a predefined motorcyclist posture model for usage in digital human model systems (e.g. RAMSIS) is developed. Furthermore this model meets demands for the different types of motorcycles causing varying postures.
A 3D-posture measurement study with 39 men and women on three different motorcycles while traveling with 100km/h on a training track was conducted using PCMAN. With the developed model it is possible to derive the proper motorcycle posture for a certain type of motorcycle design, just by naming a specific motorcycle dimension.
Additionally the posture measurement system PCMAN proves its flexible adaptability to not only static items, but also its usage with moving systems traveling at higher speeds.
