Formed-In-Place Gaskets in Powertrain Applications – Experimental and Numerical Evaluation Under Service Conditions 2006-01-3353
Flat faced joints sealed with Formed-In-Place gaskets are in widespread use in powertrain applications like engines and gear boxes. The demand to reduce time and costs in the development phase requires choosing the right gasket material, and suitable flange design already at early design stage. Thus, a better understanding of the factors controlling joint strength under realistic service conditions is needed. The paper presents appropriate test methods and numerical analysis of joints sealed with Formed-In-Place gaskets.
