Proposal for Safety Educational Guide in Asia from Viewpoint of Motorcycle Dynamics 2005-32-0079

This paper focuses on Vietnam and Thailand, where traffic safety has become a problem due to the rapid increase in the number of motorcycles, and describes local surveys that were performed to study issues relating to traffic accidents and safety for which there are insufficient statistical materials. The problems that were identified by the surveys included those of excess speed, operation of motorcycles in excess of riding capacity and non-usage of helmets. The dynamic characteristics of motorcycles when operated in excess of riding capacity have not been the focus of previous studies, since the non-linear characteristics of this problem are not ideally suited to model-based calculation. Consequently, this paper describes data related to braking and steering characteristics obtained in actual vehicle tests in this state. These results are then used to form proposals for educating riders about safe riding in line with local conditions of motorcycle usage.
