Use of CAE for Development of Plastic Intake Manifold 2005-01-1517

The development of a plastic AIM (air intake manifold) is requested more rapidly to optimum design. But plastic AIM has many problems about burst, noise, and vibration. For solving these problems, CAE is useful to predict those performances and to find best shapes. When an AIM has a complex structure, it has much time to build CAE models for predicting various performances. Efficient CAE model making is an important task to reduce time to development of a plastic AIM.
This paper presents our development process for a plastic AIM using CAD/CAE, and correlation to CAE prediction results and test results.
