Rig Tests Optimization 2003-01-3693

One of the great challenges of the automotive industry is to design new models in shorter periods of time. For such CAE (Computer Aided Engineering) analysis has been used each time more and rig tests are carried through for a final confirmation of CAE analysis without the need to build prototype vehicles.
The available resources for the accomplishment of these rig tests allow that almost any type of test can be done. Today there are equipments capable of applying, in any one specific point of a structure, loads in three directions, as well as three moments, simultaneously. This makes these tests as true to the CAE simulations as possible.
This capacity to carry through tests with six degrees of freedom in parallel takes care of the challenge of designing new models within reduced stated periods. However exists another petition of the development of new designs, which is the reduction of the cost involved.
The accomplishment of Engineering studies becomes then necessary so that these rig tests have their construction simplified, implying that only the significant loads are applied to the component in test.
