Practical Applications for Pre-formed/Over-moulded Wiring Systems 2003-01-0227

This pre-forming method was invented at LEONI in 1989 and the process has been used in series production since 1991.
The main constituent, Polyurethane (PUR) foam, is a polymeric mixture and, can therefore be made to exhibit various qualities in accordance with the wishes of the customer. These qualities such as operating temperature range, resistivity to selective corrosive substances and so forth would be best discussed in conjunction with the many advantages of this system.
Advantages such as mechanical protection, water tightness, ease of assembly through the use of moulded- in fixing points etc… are clearly displayed in the diverse range of series components produced utilising this technology, shown in regard to both size and the relative complexity of geometry warranted by each individual case, as can be seen in a selection of grommets, or an actual form stabilised cable (FSK).
The development of these and similar products, as required by ISO 9001 standards, will be shown from the concept phase all the way through to full series tooling and beyond into re-cycling, including examples of 3D Computer Aided Design (CAD) and Rapid Product Development (RPD).
