An Experimental Investigation on Determining Diesel Injector Flow and Transient Characteristics Using High Response Pressure Measurements 1999-01-0197

An experimental program has been completed to evaluate a new approach for determining the volume expelled by diesel fuel injectors for mass production testing. The technique is based on a pressure measurement upstream of an orifice that is strategically placed in the fluid discharge path. In this article, the analytical considerations and results from the experimental program are presented. The results indicate that the method successfully provides a measure of volume expelled, and if implemented properly, provides a good pressure trace for injector characterization.
