The16 papers in this technical paper collection focus on combustion technologies in both 4-stroke and 2-stroke engines characterized by 1) ignition by an external energy source that serves to control combustion phasing, and 2) a combustion rate that is limited by flame propagation. Gasoline as well as alternative fuels such as ethanol, CNG, and blends are considered. Topics include studies of mixture formation, ignition, knock, engine efficiency, flame propagation, and emissions formation.
