Automotive Glazing Regulations In The USA And Europe - Potential For Future Harmonization

Discussions are ongoing between the US and European Union Governments concerning the international harmonization of motor vehicle safety and environmental regulations. This involves consideration of the inter-governmental regulatory process necessary to achieve such harmonization and a comparison of the respective technical requirements. In this paper the automotive glazing regulations for the USA (FMVSS 205 / ANSI Z26.1) and the EU (92/22/EEC / ECE R43) are compared in terms of functional equivalence and the certification process.
