It is pointed out in this paper that it is quite difficult to reduce NOx in a DI diesel engine using ordinary hydrocarbon liquid fuel. Two possible methods might be used to reduce NOx, that is the use of IDI diesel engine. The other method is to use heated nozzle high pressure injection system.

This paper consists of two parts. The first part, the author develops a method to estimate the Hydrogen (H2) generated from the combustion of the fuel. The second part deals with the cause and effect of the existence of the pollutants NOx and particulate in the exhaust of a diesel engine. The concept of throttling in the injection nozzle is introduced to explain the results obtained in the combustion chamber of the diesel engine.
