Servo Acceleration Sensor for Automotive Applications

1994-03-01
940833
This paper describes a low-cost servo acceleration sensor suitable for automotive applications such as the antilock braking system or the traction control system. The sensor comprises a weight, a pair of flat springs, a magnetic circuit, an optical system and an electric circuit. The weight consists of a torquer coil and a pair of damper plates. In order to reduce the cost, we developed a unique construction suitable for mass production. The results of the performance tests show an excellent linearity and fine temperature characteristics over the operating temperature range of -40 to +85° C.

Development of a Measuring Meter and a Control Device for Diesel White Smoke

1989-09-01
892044
The white smoke generated by a diesel engine was analyzed and found to consist mainly of hydrocarbons. Test results indicated that the emission level depends on ambient temperature. A compact white smoke meter was developed to enable emission levels to be accurately measured. The internal temperature of this meter is controlled so that white smoke is generated within the measuring device. The meter was used to evaluate the effectiveness of various white smoke emission control devices for the DI diesel engine. The results indicated that an intake air heater offers the greatest potential. Accordingly, a new intake air heater with ceramic PTC thermistor having a very high heating efficiency was developed to reduce white smoke emission.

Highly Saturated Nitrile Elastomer (HSN) Automotive Applications III

1988-02-01
880026
More compact engine compartments combined with higher powered fuel efficient engines has led to higher operating temperature requirements, thus creating the need for improved lubricants, causing severe demands on conventional elastomers. Fuel injection creating the problems of sour gasoline, requires a departure from traditional polymers. To meet these new stringent demands and to achieve longer maintenance free automobile operation, Nippon Zeon Company commercialized “Zetpol”, highly saturated nitrile (HSR), a new oil resistant elastomer, exhibiting higher physical properties, remains stable at elevated temperature, and much improved resistance to heat, oil additives, oxidized lubricants, sour gasoline, acid and alkalis. HSN is being used for components such as dynamic and static seals, gaskets, 0-rings, diaphragms, hoses, tubing, timing belts, etc.
