Application of the Compact Disc in Car Information and Navigation Systems

1984-02-01
840156
This paper proposes an electronic car navigation system comprising a Compact Disc for mass storage of information. A special version of the Compact Disc is used, which is compatible with the music disc now being introduced in the car. Digitized road maps, street names, and information on hotels and filling stations are among the data stored on the Compact Disc. The main items relating to digitizing and storage of maps as well as the car information and navigation system are outlined. Besides a vehicle-locating segment, the system comprises an information processor, a user interface section, and a data link via the car radio for recent traffic information.
