Operator Cab Interior Noise Reduction Material Selection Test Method

1989-09-01
891946
The noise insulation of operator cabs for agricultural and construction equipment has become increasingly important in the last few years. Cabs that are noise insulated promote two-way communication and operator comfort, both being desired by the agricultural and construction equipment consumers. This paper presents a discussion concerning a method which quiets the interior of a cab using noise control materials effectively, efficiently, and in a cost effective manner. A method of determining the noise paths into the operator cab, the window technique, will be examined. Selection of appropriate absorption, damping, barrier materials, and the effective placement of these materials to achieve reduced noise levels will be discussed.

Interior Noise Reduction Methods for Heavy Trucks Using Acoustical Materials

1989-05-01
891137
Interior noise levels in heavy trucks have been reduced to approximately 80 dBA as a result of a competitive industry responsive to driver comfort. In the future interior noise level design goals promise to be further reduced. This paper describes a method of meeting current and future interior noise goals with acoustical materials. The paper reviews established noise control products and applications, identifies the benefits of giving attention to noise controls during the truck design stage, and discusses the use of Perceived Speech Interference Level analysis. A laboratory noise control development project is described.

Software Defined Radio and Security in the Automotive Domain

2015-04-14
2015-01-0203
Several wireless systems such as Dedicated Short Range Communication (DSRC), cellular, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and the Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) can be found on modern vehicles. In the future, Software Defined Radio (SDR) technology could be integrated into automobiles to increase the efficiency and adaptability of wireless communications systems. SDR is also a powerful tool for designing and testing new communications protocols. However there are also some security considerations associated with SDR. This paper will review some advantages of using SDR technology in the automotive domain as well as potential security issues. The authors are currently conducting research into the use of SDR technology to model wireless systems and investigate security threats in modern vehicular systems.
