Technical Assessment of an Automotive System through the Methodology of Engineering Value / Analysis Value

2016-10-25
2016-36-0327
In the current automotive industry, in an increasingly challenging environment due to strong competition, to develop a product that performs its functions objectively, with quality and mainly with the lowest possible cost, these are the keys to conquer competitive advantage. This paper is intended to explore cost reduction of an automotive system by using the techniques of the methodology EV / AV (Engineering Value / Analysis Value). The analysis are framed as exploratory, in the form of study, with ratings of the components and their functions, followed by the generation of ideas with the completion of an indication of a great potential for a product development with optimized cost.

Product development proposals applying the Value Engineering for automotive systems optimization

2007-11-28
2007-01-2725
The goal of this job is to present the application of a methodology capable to reduce costs of products in the vehicle conceptual development phase, through a process that stimulates the design development team's creativity. Through the study of the existent development products process in a auto maker company, improvements opportunities in the vehicle development process was identified. This job presents how to plan, execute and implement a Value Engineering (VE) in the new vehicle process development. Applying the Value Analysis / Value Engineer (VA/VE) for new automotive parts development, positive savings result was obtained. It intends to establish a development process to allow obtaining material cost reduction, manufacturing cost reduction, minimization of undesirable product functions and elimination of irrelevant functions in the product, increasing its value.

Application of Engineering and Value Analysis to a Process of New Parts Supplier's Definition in an Automotive Sector Company

2006-11-21
2006-01-2532
This study is about the application of Value Engineering in order to increase the new parts supplier definition process of an automotive company. The stages of this process were analyzed and classified to determine how should be performed. New ideas were listed to improve the process and classified according to a variant of the FIRE method of evaluation that was suggested by the author of this study. In the timing sample survey of each performed function, was found out that the initials ones were in a lower level of the requested causing the increase of timing for the intermediate functions.

Brazil and Automotive Regulation in the Globalized World.

2006-11-21
2006-01-2522
This report gathers material concerning the main automotive regulations which worked as a reference for the origin and formation of Brazil automotive regulation, the CONTRAN - “Conselho Nacional de Trânsito”. The reference is objective on regulations such as FMVSS - “Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard”, from USA and UNECE - “Economic Commission for Europe of the United Nations” where the focus will be given to the work being developed by the WP.29 - “World Forum for Harmonization of Vehicle Regulations”, belonging to UN.

Value Engineering Analysis of Vehicular Air Conditioner

2004-11-16
2004-01-3323
With the increasing demand to provide customers with a comfort-car based air-conditioning system, this paper is aimed at providing a value engineering assessment on air-conditioning based on the Brazilian customers perception of what effectively adds value to the system. In market regions like Europe and United States, the A/C installation rate is above 90%, while in South America is still around 40%. If it becomes more affordable or its value for the customer increases, the A/C system can be a strong vehicle selling factor, specially in the warmer climate regions. Value concept, in the value engineering analysis, is defined by the following equation: Value itself can be defined, on a customer perspective, either by: I. Keeping the cost parameter constant and increasing the performance parameter II. Keeping the performance parameter constant and decreasing the cost parameter, OR BY: III.

Vehicular Electrical System Under Value Engineering Optic

2004-11-16
2004-01-3292
This work shows the “Value Methodology” application looking for to identify new alternatives for vehicular electrical energy system (battery, starter, generator, coils etc.). These alternatives must be feasible to the nowadays automobiles system. The electrical system studied in this job points out to engine with its main assembled options, or accessories, as air-conditioning, hydraulic power system (HPS), electrical lifter window, a thief deterrents alarm, door lockers, etc. Heavy electrical traffic conditions, which demand more energy, representing a bigger electrical charge, are being considered in this analysis. The main focus of this job is to show the internal parts reduction, meaning a better final cost to suppliers and carmakers, and consequently a better vehicle performance. Improvements achieved through this study must be appreciated.
