Computer Simulation of Electric-, Gas Turbine-and Gas Turbine Hybrid Electric Vehicles

1994-09-01
941733
Computer simulations of a gas turbine series hybrid electric vehicle, purely electric vehicle and a gas turbine vehicle (with mechanical transmission) have been developed. The simulation results are compared with published results of conventional diesel and diesel-electric passenger cars, on the basis of a common engine type and driving schedule. The gas turbine series hybrid electric vehicle delivers the lowest emissions of all, although its specific fuel consumption (sfc) is higher than that of a diesel electric passenger car; the gas turbine hybrid electric vehicle's performance is however sensitive to the gas turbine size, battery capacity, and control law employed.

Computer Controlled Hydrostatic Transmission with Traction Control for Vehicles

1990-09-01

An unconventional hydrostatic transmission (HST) has been developed which presents an excellent alternative transmission for multi-purpose heavy vehicles (larger than 5 tons) demanding good mobility and large speed/torque ranges. This HST is of the pressure coupled type and employs digital computer as well as analogue control, so as to provide a dynamic hydromachine control strategy. This strategy ensures effective traction and steering control, due to the fact that differential, differential lock and forced steering actions are all obtained by dynamic hydrostatic machine (hydromachine) control.
