A New Concept of Instrument Clusters

2003-11-18
2003-01-3637
This paper aims to analyze the advances in the area of Instrument Clusters for commercial vehicles. A historical of the evolution of the clusters through time and the main aspects of their improvements are presented. The old and new concepts of clusters are compared with focus on their reliability, friendly interface, flexibility and financial aspects. An example cluster, the INS2000, is explored as a representant of the Modern Clusters Concept. The impact of such cluster in the automotive industry is analyzed on the basis of its technical characteristics as well as experiences of the users.

The On-Board Electronics Innovations and Future Trends based on Customer Experiences

2002-11-19
2002-01-3376
The purpose of this paper is the presentation of the main experiences of customers and users of trucks and buses regarding the electronic systems placed in these vehicles, specially in the Latin American market. Basically, in the past years the number of on-board electronic devices increased a lot and the evolution of the customer know-how concerning the new technologies is in progress. Therefore, a line between the mechanical engine and the electronic vehicle management will be traced on this paper, considering the time the customers have taken to react regarding the applied innovations.

Using Software Simulation to Test a CAN Network

2013-10-07
2013-36-0539
In a modern vehicle, hundreds of messages are transmitted each second from one ECU to another via data network, some of those containing vital information for the correct functioning of a specific task. The vehicle's behavior may change depending on the value of the transmitted messages or, in some cases, the latency or total absence of a message due to a problem in the network or in the sender ECU may cause the vehicle to generate a fault code or even assume an emergency mode. Thus, it is necessary to simulate different values and transmission periods for the existing messages in a network in order to test if the vehicle is reacting properly to them. This paper will show how to simplify individual CAN message manipulation in an existing network, using tools available in the market.

The More Comprehensive Use of Embedded Technology for Quality Improvement of the National Public Transportation System

2015-09-22
2015-36-0357
The several problems and bottlenecks faced users public transport users in big cities are a common knowledge. Among them agencies responsible for public transport recognize the lack of centralized control, the under and over supply, the lack of information to users and the non-compliance of scheduled trips. In order to work identified problems improving cities like Recife and São Paulo are testing systems named as embedded technology that integrate the use of GPS, cameras, centralized monitoring among others, retarding a deeper coverage compared to systems previously used. The main objectives are the comfort and safety increase of users and the freight logistics improvement. This paper presents the technologies being tested in Brazil through successful models applied in countries as Spain and Colombia, as well as the scope of bids and proposals for improvement of public transport.
