Development of a General Purpose Cassette Seal

1993-03-01
930532
The objective of the development project was a cost effective and relative simple unitized seal suitable for various applications ranging from engine to axle. Furthermore, it should fit into a 10mm radial and 10mm axial space and be suitable for the various methods of assembly encountered. The design chosen is based on an axial elastomeric lip running on a radial counter surface. Tests have been carried out to establish the designs parameters and the limits of performance.

Unitized Radial Shaft Seals for Engine Applications

1990-10-01
902237
Today's engines for trucks and buses impose stringent requirements for a sealing system. This report lists the criteria the sealing system must meet and discusses the basic problems that need to be solved in the development of a Cassette Seal (unitized shaft seal). Based on actual designs, this report will explain the basic construction and will discuss the function and capabilities of this sealing system.

Laminar Sealing Rings for Rotating Shafts and Housings

1988-09-01
881276
Laminar Sealing Rings as grease seals and dirt excluders for rotating shafts and housings have been used in Europe for more than 30 years. They form a highly efficient labyrinth seal that is virtually non-contacting, and therefore produce hardly any friction, heat or wear; their nearly unlimited temperature and speed-range, high reliability, minimum space requirements and insensitivity towards end-play and eccentricities allow the use of Laminar Sealing Rings for a wide variety of applications. This paper covers the use of Laminar Sealing Rings as grease seals and dirtexcluders/protectors of elastomeric shaft seals for rotating shafts and housings and intends to give the designer an introduction to this sealing element.
