Development of Fuel Injector and Fuel Pump for a Fuel Injection System to Use in Small Motorcycles

2005-04-11
2005-01-0047
Amidst the growing concerns for the global environment and the escalating demands for low exhaust emissions and high fuel economy small motorcycles, the electronically controlled fuel injection system (hereafter referred to as FI system) is making its appearance as an effective device to reduce emissions while improving fuel economy by precisely controlling the air-to-fuel ratio. Fuel injectors and fuel pumps currently used in small motorcycle FI systems were originally derived from multi-cylinder engine automobile and large motorcycle FI system components, and therefore have not been necessarily suitable for small motorcycle application.

Diesel Particulate Filter Made of Porous Metal

1998-02-23
980187
A diesel particulate filter (DPF) using porous metal for a filter, due to its high thermal conductivity, and a radiation heater for a regeneration device, due to its uniform distribution of temperature, has been developed. When high trapping efficiency is required, filter thickness should be increased. However, the thicker filter has a problem of low regeneration efficiency caused by the declination of temperature in the direction of thickness in the filter. In order to improve regeneration efficiency, a filter-heater structure which achieves uniform distribution of temperature was designed by using computer simulation and confirmed good regeneration efficiency of this structure in the experiment.

Development of Dual Flow System of Diesel Particulate Filter Made of Porous Metal

1997-02-24
970473
In order to reduce the amount of particulate matter (PM) in the exhaust gas of diesel engines, a dual flow type diesel particulate filter (DPF) system made of porous metal filters has been developed. In this paper, the development and the evaluation results will be discussed. The test results on the engine bench and the vehicle have revealed good performance of the DPF system and have practical application for urban buses.

Acceleration Sensor for ABS

1992-02-01
920477
An acceleration sensor that generates an output voltage proportional to acceleration has been developed. We invented a new, high sensitivity, differential transformer with an efficient magnetic circuit through analysis of the magnetic field in the sensor. This differential transformer design provides sensitivity approximately eleven times greater than that of conventional differential transformer designs, resulting in excellent frequency and sensitivity characteristics which are trade offs. The 4WD Anti-lock Brake System (ABS) which was developed using this acceleration sensor, exhibited greatly improved performance on ice-covered roads.

The Sumitomo Electronic Antilock System

1988-02-01
880320
In spring 1987 Sumitomo Electric Ind. Ltd.(SEI) started production of an electronic antilock system for a Japanese car manufacturer. Features of this system are: 1. Extremely reliable due to - separate hydraulic control circuit. - dual electronic circuit. - self diagnostic function. 2. Improved pedal feel by using cut-off valves. 3. Easy addition of traction control system. This paper contains the basic concepts and details the components that make up the system.

Wheel Rotation Sensor for Navigation System

1988-02-01
880409
The wheel rotation sensor developed for navigation system is small and light, and generates high output voltage of 0.37V p-p without a prc-amplifier when the gap between the sensor and the multi-polarized magnetic rotor is 2.0mm. The sensor has excellent resistance to environmental conditions. Several simulation tests and car evaluations were carried out and it is confirmed that the sensor generates enough output voltage and satisfies requirements for the system including the decrease of output voltage caused by temperature, gap variation while running, and so on.
