Presented in this paper are the methods used in TRW’s digital computer program for reciprocating engine cycle analysis to incorporate various combustion processes, to account for different fuels, and to determine the environment for combustion based on operating conditions and engine design. Also included are samples of results of calculations on ignition delay in compression ignition engines and knock under various conditions in spark ignition engines.
