It is possible to eliminate solvents, such as MEK (Methyl Ethyl Ketone) and Toluene, currently used as cleaners and solvent wipes on airframe components. Recent cooperative efforts between the research scientists in Pacific Chemical's R&D Group and Boeing engineers have lead to some novel and exciting developments. Several alternative formulations, including aqueous and EPA compliant cleaners, have been developed and successfully tested on a variety of cleaning operations in airframe construction, assembly and pre-paint preparation stages. Recycling systems are also being considered in the design of a complete solvent cleaning program that will minimize waste and chemical cleaner costs. The benefits to Regulatory Compliance and Worker Safety issues will also be addressed.
