Alloy 6013: An Improved Alloy for ABS Piston and Valve Block Applications

1995-02-01
950763
Alloy 6013 has been developed as a better alternative to 6262 and 6061 alloys commonly used in ABS pistons and valve blocks. The combination of magnesium, silicon and copper additions result in a harder matrix which results in better machinability and higher mechanical properties. This product is available in screw machine stock form, along with selected cold-finished squares and rectangles. It is also available in impact stock. This alloys offers better machinability as compared to 6061 and similar machinability to 6262. Superior strength, fatigue, and creep resistance is seen as compared to both alloys. Information is given on structure, development of the alloy, and current applications. Also, a summary of properties listed above is presented.

Aluminum Alloy Deltalloy™ 4032: Elimination of Anodizing for Wear Resistant Applications

1993-03-01
930708
Deltalloy™ 4032 has been developed to eliminate anodizing in applications which have been typically anodized for wear resistance. The combination of silicon and nickel in an aluminum matrix results in exceptional wear resistance. This product is available in screw machine stock form along with selected squares and rectangles. Deltalloy 4032 has already replaced 6262 and 2024 hard coat anodized parts in automotive steering column, brake master cylinder and transmission applications. This alloy can offer cost savings for potential users by eliminating anodizing. In particular, cost savings are realized by eliminating hard-coat anodizing, lower work-in-process inventories and the elimination of secondary grinding after hard-coat anodizing. Information is given on structure, mechanical properties, wear and durability testing along with machinability. In addition, data will be presented on salt spray corrosion testing.

Alcoa - Massena Operations: An Integrated Aluminum Aerospace Forging Stock Producer

1991-09-01
912132
Alcoa - Massena Operations is a totally integrated aluminum producer from primary production to fabricated rod, wire and bar products. Alcoa - Massena Operations currently offers sixteen different alloys of forging stock; eight of these have a wide usage in a variety of aerospace applications. Alcoa - Massena Operations can offer both O (annealed) and F (as-fabricated) tempers in both Class I and Class II product forms. Class II forging stock offers two to ten times tighter tolerances from a diameter standpoint than those of Class I. Available alloys now include 2219 and 2618 designed for high-temperature use and 4032 alloy for high-temperature wear performance (e.g. aircraft pistons). Alloy 7475 is also available, it offers microstructural control to provide superior fracture toughness properties. Details concerning structure-property relationships and overall facility support to these products and their respective applications will be presented.
