SCRUM applied to foundry simulation projects

2023-02-10
2022-36-0068
Process simulation has a growing role in the casting industry, considered as an essential tool by most foundries that aim to develop systems that deliver quality parts, with the highest possible yield and lowest scrap rate. The challenges of performing casting simulation as part of tool construction projects for permanent molds are presented here. Real schedules from tooling companies are analyzed and their bottlenecks are explored. Using the concepts of agile project management and the Scrum framework applied to a cast part, it was possible to verify that integration between tool construction and simulation can increase quality and robustness with no impact to product development time.

B-GAS: Conversion system to Internal Combustion Engine (Diesel) for using alternative energetic source for application in Agricultural Machinery

2020-01-13
2019-36-0235
Fuel has a huge port in the operating costs of agribusiness, the increase on the price and the shortage of this energy resource has a direct impact on agricultural production costs. In this context, regions that are farther from refineries and lack the presence of fuel distribution centers tend to suffer more from the availability and cost of this resource. Economically speaking, agribusiness has a prominent position in the national scenery. The world fuel source had an evolution from the predominance of solid fuels to the current age of liquid fuels derived from petroleum and seeing the future and growing age of gas fuels as the predecessor stage of electric vehicles in some markets.

Anti-Collision Fuzzy Logic System for Automobile Vehicles

2013-10-07
2013-36-0651
From simple collisions to major tragedies, car accidents happen every day. Automobile industry has been investing a lot in security systems (e.g., airbags, ABS brakes, vehicle proximity warning systems). However, drivers are still the ones who have to act in order to avoid collisions, by using the brakes or maneuvering the car. The purpose of this project is to develop an anti-collision logic that can be used on automobile vehicles to avoid collisions with both static and moving objects by interfering on the vehicle behavior. The control system is based on a fuzzy modeled controller using the MATLAB and Simulink tools from Math Works. The prototype chosen to test the logic was the Robotino, a mobile robot system made by Festo Didactic, and used for educational, training and research purposes. Robotino is able to integrate to Simulink tool natively, and provides out-of-the-box sensors and actuators, so the developers are able to focus the efforts on the software itself.

FMEA to Improve the Project Management

2012-10-02
2012-36-0573
The FMEA methodology, widely used in projects through the application of DFMEA (Design FMEA), and processes for implementing the PFMEA (Process FMEA), represents a great opportunity to be used in Project Management, recording the experiences and lessons learned in current or past projects in order to prevent the recurrence of project failure. In this paper we are proposing the improvement of RFMEA (Risk FMEA) to prevent the automotive program mistakes. The main goal of the application of FMEA methodology on project management is to generate an organized way to document the experiences of existing projects and to transform the tacit knowledge of the team that develops projects into explicit knowledge, as well as, prevent future projects from existing critical failure modes. Due to globalization and the consequent need to launch products in the shortest possible time, project management has been essential for business survival.

2010-36-0346
Internal combustion engine calibration teaching by Stand Alone System. This paper illustrates a teaching methodology for technical students of internal combustion engine calibration, by stand alone engine control unit with variable ignition and fuel injection time. Using a system named HIS (Stand alone Electronic Control Unit), to change the engine parameters, as fuel injection time and ignition time, the students can optimize fuel consumption, performance and exhaust emission. The tests are developed using the DOE (design of experiments) technique of artificial intelligence.

Diagnose Methodology Based on Bayesian Net to Indicate Failure Probability

2010-10-06
2010-36-0299
The Proposal of this paper is to demonstrate the diagnosis methodology based on Bayesian Net and fuzzy logic to indicate failure probability for vehicle systems and other segments, for instance medical and Aeronautic. This work was initially developed in a dissertation that has succeeded in developing a system of fault diagnosis for diesel engines and now this article demonstrated the possibility of extending this methodology to other vehicle systems and other segments science. Also extension to other areas was also added to the technique of logic that adds the advantage of supporting the fuzzy logic in complex environments, such as the vehicle approached the diagnosis, aerospace and medical.

Computational Methods for Management of Hybrid Vehicles

2008-10-07
2008-36-0262
As the electronic engine technologies advances, the engine management tool has drawled attention for being one of the main efficiency improvement methodologies and for being applied on Diesel and Otto cycle engines. With the creation of hybrid vehicles there comes the need to manage several engines simultaneously in order to optimize the energy consumption and to reduce the waste emission, among other improvements. To accomplish this objectives are necessary to adapt this system to the driver's needs and to improve its controls. In order to doing so, we propose an intelligent approach for controlling this managing system using of artificial and computational intelligence techniques such as Bayesian Nets, Neural networks and Genetic Algorithms.

Off Board diagnosis using analytical system for Diesel powered vehicles

2008-10-07
2008-36-0174
We propose a demonstration of a new analytical method of failure diagnosis for diesel engines. This method is able to help the end user to solve problems in the vehicle using failure detection without having deep technical knowledge in automotive engineering, and it gives Product Engineering the opportunity to update DFMEA directly by field failure results detected by the system diagnosis. The ability to detect failures by this method is based on the component failures rate in the field, its mileage and symptoms of the engine failure that may be perceived as leaks, noise and smoke, among others. This method is developed using statistical calculation of probabilities through Bayesian networks, in addition to applying the knowledge of experts in the field of quality, diesel engines, artificial intelligence and vehicle diagnostics.

Relation Among Virtual, Conventional and Rapid Prototyping Technologies.

2001-03-05
2001-01-3900
In the process of development of a product, is important that the technologies of virtual, conventional and rapid prototyping can be used alternatively, this way it makes possible and facilitates the right development of a product. During the planning of the project, that happens before the beginning of any other activity, it is very important the knowledge of different process of prototyping, to decide what process will be used and which stage of the project it will satisfy the required necessities. Some mistakes in the choice of the process, or in not using the prototyping resource, will result in more time and costs for developing and less reliability of the project. So, the techniques of prototyping when used in a rational way, can be very important for making decisions during the development of the product.
